From the 90’s recession to the UK’s market leader

Chippenham based, Fascia Graphics®, which was launched at the end of the 90’s recession celebrates its 15th Anniversary this month as the UK’s market leader for the production of membrane keypads in the printed graphics industry. The company has gone from 40 customers in 1994, with a healthy first year turnover of £130,000 to today supplying well over 600 customers with now a turnover in excess of £2.5million.

Since its inception, the company has worked with many well-known Blue Chip businesses, but more recently, it has also experienced significant growth across Europe (incl. France, Belgium, Germany and Italy), the US and Asia.

The company has grown rapidly over its 15 years, but this was particularly evident in its early years, when turnover virtually doubled year on year for a period of five years. This continued growth is testament to the operation’s ability to satisfy its customers – and to do so in such markets as security, fire, medical and electronics, where there is no toleration for second-best.

After moving to its 12,000 square foot factory on the Bath Road Industrial Estate in 2005, the company expanded its office and production space to 15,000 square feet last year to cater for its rapidly increasing customer base.

Paul Bennett, Managing Director, Fascia Graphics® Limited, commented:

“This is a hugely significant milestone for the company. From day one, Fascia Graphics®’ company ethos has held true, with customers choosing our services because we are faster, more cost effective, and provide exceptional levels of product quality in comparison to our competition.”

Staff are pivotal to the company’s success...

Fascia Graphics® has always taken staff development very seriously. For instance, over the past twelve months, capacity has increased by up to a quarter after training shop floor workers in lean manufacturing techniques through the Learning and Skills Council’s Train to Gain service. And, it’s not just about improving company performance, staff commitment remains very high, with on average each employee working for the company for over seven years.

Leading the way...

Fascia Graphics® has always led the market with new product developments by utilising the latest technologies and techniques for the manufacture of membrane keypads, graphic overlays, labels and associated products. A recent step forward has been its rapid prototyping service. The company recognised that design houses and engineering businesses often need professionally manufactured digital overlays or membrane keypads at very short notice for trade show prototypes or new product developments. So a nationwide service was launched to meet the requirements of such customers in no more than five days. In practice, this timescale can often be shortened to just 24 hours.

Quality

Since 1996, the company has held ISO 9001 approval, and through its continuous improvement culture, it has achieved ISO 9001:2008. Fascia Graphics® also has UL approval to PGAA and PGDQ2 standards. UL status is the most accepted safety certification mark in the US by consumers, regulatory authorities and the insurance industry. This has opened up a vast US market for the company’s UL approved graphic overlays and membrane keypads.

Paul Bennett concluded:

“We pride ourselves on working closely with our customers to develop unique product solutions at the right price. In these economically challenging times we are seeing this side of our business under increasing demand as customers want to tap into our company wide market knowledge.”

Fascia Graphics® will be celebrating its 15th anniversary throughout March, by offering all of its customers 15% off set-up (Tooling & Artworks) for all new orders placed during the month.

This offer ends at the end of the working day (5pm) on 31st March 2009.

For over a decade Fascia Graphics® has been providing the highest quality products for a diverse range of equipment, across a wide range of industry sectors...

Fascia Graphics®, the market leader for the production of membrane keypads in the printed graphics industry says that much of its success over the last decade has been as a result of its approach to sourcing the best materials and adhesives in the industry.

The Chippenham based company, offers graphic solutions for all types of applications including electronics, medical, security, vehicle, CCTV, nautical and white goods. By working closely with the leading suppliers in the industry it has developed and supplied solutions for individual customer requirements. For example, over the last few years, it has worked closely with MacDermid Autotype to supply graphic overlays with anti-microbial protection. These are now widely used by many of its medical industry customers.

More recently, Fascia has developed graphic overlays for a new range of medical gas area alarms. These alarms are used in hospitals to monitor the supply and condition of vital medical gasses, in operating theatres and intensive care units, where some of the most vulnerable imuno-suppressed patients are treated and cared for, and where the need to prevent infection is greatest.

Providing products for extreme conditions

Another good example of meeting customer challenges is through the company’s work with SKF Condition Monitoring. Fascia supply’s the company with rear plate graphic overlays for SKF’s Microlog Series Analyzers, which enables users to establish comprehensive periodic condition monitoring of moving mechanical parts such as bearings.

One of the particular challenges that SKF faced was the extreme conditions that its products are used in, so it was crucial that it provided a strong and hard wearing product that could withstand day to day wear and tear in an oily, greasy environment.

Trevor Medhurst, Production Co-ordinator, SKF Condition Monitoring Centre comments: “It is highly important that all the parts we source for our Microlog Series of Analyzers are competitively priced and highly durable so no colour fading or general erosion of any part takes place. Fascia Graphics® have delivered on both of these factors and their approach to problem solving is first class.”

Fascia Graphics® to recruit a further eight staff to support growth strategy...

Chippenham based, Fascia Graphics® has completed work to increase production space at its Bath Road Industrial Estate factory. With an additional 3,000sq.ft and further companywide growth expected, Fascia is now actively recruiting for eight positions, including: Production Engineer/Engineer Manager, Graphic Designer and Pad Print Manager.

Since it was established in 1994, the independently run company has grown year on year to become a significant employer in and around the Chippenham area. The company presently employs 60 staff and it is expecting a further 15 per cent increase in staff numbers this year.

The company is recruiting a Pad Print Manager as it will use some of the additional production space to dedicate an operational area to its new pad printing technology. This technology will offer customers the choice of printing onto a far greater choice of materials (metal or plastics) and shapes/surfaces. For instance, Fascia will now be able to print onto parts that are angled, concave or radiused such as car switches, or recessed areas.

Paul Bennett, Founder and Managing Director of Fascia Graphics® Limited commented: “Now that work is complete on our factory we are really putting an emphasis on recruiting highly skilled staff for a number of key positions. As a company, we are constantly looking at new and innovative ways to provide a better service to our customers. For instance, our new pad printing will allow us to print onto a vast number of substrates and into troughs, channels or onto concave or convex areas.”

Fascia Graphics® is bucking the industry trend by experiencing strong growth, whilst the rest of the industry is in regression. The company is now widely accepted across the industry as the market leader with over 600 clients, including well-known Blue Chip West Country businesses.

Fascia’s new pad printing operation will enhance component value for customers...

Fascia Graphics®, the market leader for the production membrane keypads in the printed graphics industry has invested in new Pad Printing Technology in order to offer customers a service that can print onto a far greater choice of materials (metal or plastics) and shapes/surfaces. For instance, Fascia will now be able to print onto parts that are angled, concave or radiused such as car switches, or recessed areas.

The company is expecting this new service to be very popular as it is a highly reliable process that increases the visual aesthetics of the substrate that is printed onto. Having just added an additional 3,000sq.ft of production space to its Chippenham based factory, the company will be allocating a dedicated operational space to this activity.

Fascia Graphics® identifies the following benefits to customers of pad printing:

  • Printing onto all shapes and sizes - Fascia can now print onto buttons/switches that protrude through a holes, or print into troughs or channels or onto concave or convex areas
  • Added component value – by using pad printing to add graphics to a part, a significant value can be added as visually stimulating components are more attractive than plain coloured ones.
  • Variety of printable surfaces – assuming that the correct ink is chosen, pad printing can be carried out on almost any material.
  • Wet-on wet multi-colour printing – pad printing has the ability to print many colours without the need for intermediate drying time between each colour. This helps to decrease the time to print multi-coloured parts as there isn’t the need to allow each colour to dry separately.

John Law, a Manager at Fascia Graphics® who is highly experienced in pad printing, commented: “This new service will provide Fascia’s customers with a greater level of flexibility when designing component products that require a strong visual identity. With this technology, we can also print onto a vast number of substrates and into troughs, channels or into concave or convex areas.”

Fascia Graphics® research finds three quarters (77 per cent) of engineers feel that the UK manufacturing industry will weather rising costs and financial turmoil…

Fascia Graphics® research released today (4th April 2008) has found that despite the growing concerns around the ‘credit crunch’ and its effect on the UK economy, the majority of engineers (85 per cent) remain positive that their business will continue its recent growth and output levels. Furthermore, over half (56 per cent) stated that ‘more competitive pricing’ will be the key driver in ensuring that the UK manufacturing industry sustain stronger levels of growth.

The Fascia Graphics® research across 50 engineers working in the fire, safety, medical, catering, and electronics sectors also found that three quarters (77 per cent) of engineers feel that the UK manufacturing industry will weather rising costs and financial turmoil.

The research conducted by Fascia Graphics®, the market leader for the production of graphic overlays and membrane keypads in the printed graphics industry, also found that:

  • Nearly half (40 per cent) felt that the UK manufacturing sector is growing faster than France and Germany (whose markets have contracted recently) because of the UK’s ‘reputation for quality’ and its ‘ability to be more competitive’.
  • The majority (83 per cent) of engineers haven’t considered sourcing graphic overlays and membrane keypads from overseas, preferring to trust UK manufacturing.

Paul Bennett, Founder and Managing Director of Fascia Graphics® commented:
“Our research demonstrates that despite the financial turmoil in the money markets, engineers are confident that UK manufacturing output can continue to grow. There are going to be a number of key challenges for the sector over the next twelve months, but as long as we continue to remain competitive with our pricing without sacrificing our reputation for quality and customer service, we will continue to have the edge on our competition.”

Chippenham based, Fascia Graphics® has announced that it will be expanding its office space at its Bath Road Industrial Estate factory to cater for its rapidly increasing customer base. Over the past twelve months, the market leader has yet again increased turnover and this had led it to make the decision to expand the front of its factory to incorporate more production space as it embarks on a recruitment drive in 2008.

The company was recently granted planning permission to add more production space, together with re-cladding the existing building in the company’s corporate colours of red and gold. The company presently employs 60 staff and it is expecting a further 15 per cent increase in staff numbers during 2008.

In the last two months, the company has also increased the size of its sales force from five to eight, a proactive move enabling Fascia Graphics® to better service its existing customers and to win even more market share. The addition of extra sales personnel demonstrates the company’s commitment and drive to remain the market leader in membrane keypads and graphic overlays. Over the past twelve months, capacity has also increased by up to a quarter after training shopfloor workers in lean manufacturing techniques through the Learning and Skills Council’s Train to Gain service.

The company is also bucking the industry trend by experiencing strong growth, whilst the rest of the industry is in regression. Fascia Graphics® is now widely accepted across the industry as the market leader with over 600 clients, including well-known Blue Chip West Country businesses.

Paul Bennett, Founder and Managing Director of Fascia Graphics® Limited commented: “Capacity has increased by up to a quarter after training shopfloor workers in lean manufacturing techniques, and with an investment in new printing equipment throughout 2007; we now have the capacity to invest in new sales people and the development of further production and office space. This approach will assist us in increasing our market share across the UK.”

“As our competition has continued to see their market share erode, we continue to rapidly expand as our customers really see a clear difference in Fascia Graphics®’ product quality and customer service. Our continued growth has firmly positioned the company as the UK’s leading supplier of screen printed labels, membrane keyboards and graphic overlays.”
