3 Benefits of a Good Quality Management System

3 Benefits of a Good Quality Management System

A Quality Management System (QMS) is a collection of business processes focused on achieving quality policy and quality objectives to meet customer requirements. For a QMS to be successful all quality requirements need to be documented within the management system, with employees receiving applicable training in the quality system requirements.

Benefits of implementing a good quality management system are:

1)      Improved process control

By implementing a good quality management system within your company, you can gain a better control over each manufacturing process. By having strict procedures in place, every step of the operation’s process can be monitored and carried out to a consistently high standard.

2)      Reduced waste

With a quality management system in place you can begin to identify the causes of waste and introduce changes to achieve immediate waste reduction. By reviewing each stage of your business process problems can be prevented from arising in the future. Having the correct processes in place, and manufacturing products correctly the first time, is much easier and more efficient than trying to solve the issues after they have arisen. Through a reduction in waste, businesses can reduce production costs, significantly increasing profit margins.

3)      Improve customer satisfaction

Having a good quality management system will leave your customers with confidence in your company’s abilities to deliver the desired product and service consistently, meeting their needs and expectations every time.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO), is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies that has published more than 19,500 international standards covering almost every industry. One such standard is the quality management standard ISO 9001:2008. A company can be certified under the ISO 9001:2008 standard if they meet its requirements. By gaining this certification you can distinguish yourself from your competitors. Also, many large businesses and public sector organisations require suppliers to be ISO 9001 certified.
