British Manufacturer Shares Experience with Global Competitor
During the Summer of 2011 Fascia Graphics® Ltd and Natgraph Ltd embarked on a journey exploring the feasibility of installing a fully automatic Sakurai cylinder screen-printing line at Fascia Graphics’ Wiltshire based manufacturing facility.
Fascia Graphics® have been supplying Membrane Switches, Graphic Overlays, and other industrial graphics since 1994 and have built up an enviable reputation as being the UK’s leading industrial graphics manufacturer.
Natgraph Ltd are based in Nottingham, UK and are Europe's largest manufacturer of conveyorised dryers, utilising forced air, infra-red energy and ultra-violet radiation.
Sakurai Inc. manufacture some of the finest quality printing machinery available in the world, incorporating cutting-edge technology such as their new servo-driven cylinder press the MS80-SD. They have been supplying their bespoke solutions since 1946 and continue to expand and progress from their Japanese headquarters.
Alan Shaw of Natgraph invited three of the Fascia Graphics® management team to visit a selection of Natgraph’s customers based in Italy who have similar technology installed and in operation. A three-day trip to Italy convinced the Fascia Graphics® management team that the proposed Sakurai line was the correct machine for their application. Additionally, a selection of the more sensitive substrates were sent to Japan for Sakurai to design, test and build a special anti-scratch substrate path through the cylinder press.
In March 2012 Fascia Graphics® completed the installation of their first Sakurai MS80-SD/Natgraph line. Just 12 months later the installation of a second Sakurai line was completed at Fascia Graphics’® manufacturing facility. The success of the installation paid testament to the combined effort of the three companies to ensure the perfect solution was found and executed.
In February 2014 the process turned full-circle when Alan Shaw approached Fascia Graphics® requesting a potential customer from Brazil visit their facility to see if the Sakurai technology would be suitable for their requirements. Based in Sao Paulo, the South-American manufacturers produce control panels and industrial graphics for white goods such as washing machines and fridges. After a successful visit they left the UK with a much better idea of how suitable the Sakurai line and Natgraph dryer combination will be.
Commented Alan Shaw ‘I would like to say thank you most sincerely for the outstanding visit to Fascia Graphics on Monday. It could not have been better for us and our customers from Brazil, it was very good of you to be so open and helpful. Your company and your factory are so impressive, it is a credit to you all and I feel privileged that you allowed us to see it so deeply’.
For Fascia Graphics® it was nice to be able to open their doors and share their manufacturing experience with other manufacturers from within the industry. Paul Bennett, Managing Director at Fascia Graphics® said ‘Before we visited Italy with Natgraph we could not be certain that a Sakurai/Natgraph line was the way forward. After our trip to Italy we were confident enough to invest over £600,000 into two purpose-built positive-pressure print rooms, and a pair of Sakurai MS80-SD’s. It was a great privilege to be able to pass on our expertise, experience and knowledge to help another manufacturer in the same way as we were helped. It’s great to see two market-leading manufacturers such as Fascia Graphics® and Natgraph working together and leading the global market-place within their fields’.
