Fascia Graphics Production Engineer takes part in Challenge Cancer – Cycle London to Brighton

Fascia Graphics Production Engineer takes part in Challenge Cancer – Cycle London to Brighton

On the 20th September Production Engineer Becca Newton took part in Challenge Cancer – Cycle London to Brighton.

Challenge Cancer is a 100km (62 mile) cycle ride that includes road and rough terrain - no easy feat.

Having never taken part in an event such as this, Becca thought it would be a challenge and a great way to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, a cause particularly close to Becca after her Nan passed away at a very early age from breast cancer.

The challenge started with a lap at Lee Valley VeloPark (the Velodrome of the London’s 2012 Olympics), before making the 100km journey in heavy rain to Brighton. At the end the team was presented with an extra challenge of climbing a two mile hill, so with all the twists and turns the actual distance cycled was 110km!

The team managed to complete the impressive feat in 9 hours and 2 minutes. Heavy rain may have dampened the team but it didn’t dampen their spirits and their determination to complete the challenge.

A memorable moment for Becca was crossing that finish line with overwhelming support from the cheering crowd.

On the challenge Becca had this to say “I would definitely participate again and we are already thinking about doing it next year and attempting to beat our time.”

A fellow team member broke her leg in February, so the training for the event was her own form of rehabilitation, with the successful completion of the cycle the epitome of all her hard work.

Massive congratulations go to Becca and her team for all their hard working raising money for such an important cause. Smashing her £200 fundraising target, with donations still coming, it’s not too late to show your support. You can donate via Becca’s JustGiving page, and raising that fundraising total even more.
