How the Consumer Electronic Products Industry uses Membrane Keypads

The majority of membrane keypad products are for industrial or commercial use – the main applications which come to mind are medical instruments, security systems and control panels for the transport sector. However, most of us will come into contact with a form of membrane keypad on a daily basis. You’ll find them in the home, at work, and in public places.

With the consumer electrics industry booming, almost everyone owns more electronics but they often have a touchscreen function. Find out which consumer products still utilise a membrane keyboard below.

Vending machines

You can find food and beverage vending machines in the majority of public places including train stations, shopping centres and food courts or canteens. The membrane keyboard allows users to select the product they want and choose their payment method – and the mechanics does the rest. Kitchen appliances

Many modern kitchen appliances now feature a membrane keypad, including microwaves, blenders, and slow cookers. Even some ovens, primarily industrial ovens, utilise membrane keypads for temperature control and timing options. Most modern thermostats now use a combination of dials and membrane touchpads for controlling the temperature in the home. Whether it’s a central heating system or air conditioning, it’s probable that complex membrane switch technology is behind the keypad of choice. Without an innovative membrane keyboard, you wouldn’t be able to turn the heating up or down!
