How we Test our Membrane Keypads
Product testing is vital for quality assurance, and here at Fascia Graphics we believe in performing more rigorous product tests than most. In addition to meeting the British Standards for IP ratings, we go one step further – sending our graphic overlays and membrane keyboards to an external test house for further assessment.
What is an IP Rating?
IP stands for Ingress Protection and is an internationally recognised system used so consumers can understand the level of protection provided by a product. Ingress protection ratings can be identified by the letters IP, followed by two numbers. These numbers define the amount of protection a digital scale has against specified elements, and its ability to resist foreign matter that could otherwise get inside the product and cause it to fail.
The first number refers to the amount of protection a scale or indicator enclosure has against solid matter (such as dust particles), while the second number defines the level of protection against liquids. The larger each digit is, the greater the protection.
If you’ve ever spilt a drink on a laptop or accidentally dropped your smartphone in a puddle, you’ll know the importance of engineering products which protect against these hazards! If a product is designed to be used outdoors or in harsh environments, then it needs to be durable and protected against the weather and chemicals – which is why it needs an IP rating.
Third party testing
Because we want the membrane keyboards we produce to be the best on the market, we ensure they have the highest IP rating possible. We send them to an external test house to be assessed by a third party, to measure the degree of protection provided against the intrusion of foreign bodies (such as water or dust) in the mechanical casing.
The external test house approves the keypads which are rated IP54, IP65 and IP67. Rigorous IP tests are carried out, and a complete test report sent back to Fascia Graphics. This endorsement from an objective third party gives an unrivalled seal of approval, letting customers know that our graphic overlays and membrane keypads are of the highest quality.
Our continuous dedication to product testing allows Fascia Graphics to remain at the forefront of our industry, while following stringent quality controls.
