The State of UK Manufacturing
Is UK manufacturing being prevented from becoming wholly competitive by the UK’s national industrial culture?
A report published recently has warned that the UK’s national industrial culture that discourages companies from investing in vital long-term business drivers such as skills development and technological innovation is preventing the UK from becoming ‘wholly competitive’.
The report which was published by the All-Party Parliamentary Manufacturing Group (APMG) highlights that evidence of manufacturing businesses disinclination to seek advice and collaborate in order to grow can be seen in the reluctance of many UK companies to engage with available support packages and business development programmes.
The report goes on to call on the government to do more to create and foster a pro-investment culture in UK manufacturing. To build competitive business practices into manufacturer’s strategic thinking, restructuring key interactions between manufacturing businesses and policymakers are also needed.
The report also urges the government to establish a ten-year fiscal framework designed to encourage manufacturing businesses to adopt more ambitious growth strategies based on longer-term investment, which regardless of the outcome of the next general election will be honoured by all political parties.
At Fascia Graphics® we have signed up to Growth Accelerator, a government backed service, which will help provide a framework to build on Fascia growth strategy to double the size of our business in 4 years.
