What do we mean by IP rating?

Fascia Graphics® produce numerous Membrane Keyboards and Membrane Switches that need to be protected against the intrusion from foreign bodies such as dust and water. By manufacturing to IP65, IP67 or IP68 rating, our products are perfectly suited to withstand any conditions they are placed in.

What is IP Rating?

IP Rating or Ingress Protection Rating defines the sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures standards. It classifies and rates the degree of protection provided against the intrusion from the foreign bodies such as dust and water by mechanical casings and electrical enclosures. The consensus based international standards were published by the International Electrotechnical Commission.

The IP Rating system is made up of two digits, each that refer to a level of protectiveness. The first digit refers to the level of protection from solid objects such as dust, and the second digit refers to the level of protection from liquids such as water.

The higher the digit , the higher the protection against contamination from foreign bodies, starting at 0 through to 6 for the level of protection from solid objects, and 0 through to 8 for the level of protection from liquids.

At Fascia Graphics® we manufacture to either: IP65, IP67 or IP68 rating, subject to engineering approval.

See the table below for an explanation of these IP ratings:

IP Rating

Definition

IP65

Totally protected against dust. Protections against low pressure jets of water from all directions – limited ingress permitted

IP67

Totally protected against dust. Protected against the effects of temporary immersion between 15cm and 1m. Duration of test 30 minutes

IP68

Totally protected against dust. Protected against long periods of immersion under pressure
