Why the Right Stencil can deliver Improved Profitability
One of Fascia Graphics® key suppliers MacDermid Autotype are a manufacturer of coated films and blended liquids for the printing industry. They offer a number of products and solutions to aid industrial graphics manufacturers, especially in the more technically demanding applications. They recently wrote an article on how using the right screen print stencil can greatly improve productivity, reduce ink usage and reduce wastage:
Improving productivity is one of the best ways to improve profitability; consequently huge efforts are placed on increasing printing speeds and throughput. Yet how much time is really spent focusing on screen print set-up times, right first-time quality, out of specification print wastage etc..?
In fact, one of the major causes of production inefficiency comes from trying to use the wrong screen print stencil for the job in hand. This undoubtedly leads to unnecessary time spent carrying out 'on-press' fixes, such as changing squeegee pressure/angle/type/speed etc… In terms of efficiency, this effort is wasteful because:
a) This treats the symptoms rather than the cause
b) These fixes don't always work on the next job
The solution is simple: use the right stencil for the job. Years of technical development led MacDermid Autotype to formulate Capillex® CX™, the 'Controlled Profile' stencil system. Specifically formulated for the most demanding of industrial applications Capillex® CX™ improves production efficiency through minimising the stencil influence on ink build to produce a cleaner, more reliable print. The end result is an extremely flat, low-ink deposit with minimal edge build or sawtoothing, which reduces ink usage and ensures a consistent finished result.
These benefits come from the fact that Capillex® CX™ produces a consistently low yet controlled stencil profile of only 3μ, coupled with optimised stencil flatness (low Rz) over a mesh range from 62-100/cm. Conventional stencils used for quality industrial printing give a much higher stencil profile and that often leads to incomplete ink transfer, typically seen as defects in the print or print-to-print inconsistencies. Capillex® CX™ features excellent mounting characteristics, high levels of flexibility, and is solvent and abrasion resistant. This makes it particularly suitable for demanding applications such as conductive or resistive ink printing and other critical deposit applications.
This stencil system is also compatible with both conventional UV and solvent based inks. Constructed from a sensitised polymer coating on a micro-matted polyester film, it is amazingly robust, making it ideal for use in the harshest of industrial environments. Capillex® CX™ offers many significant benefits to industrial screen printers, including opportunities for improved productivity, ink savings and waste reduction.
